Q. What is Thermo Mechanical Treatment?
The Thermo Mechanical Treatment treatment (TMT) represents the application of both thermal and mechanical pressure on a metal. The mechanical force changes the shape and structure of steel rods under the influence of thermal forces, heat, and cold. The TMT process allows sudden heating and cooling of the steel bars by putting them repeatedly under very high and low temperatures to form a tough martensite external layer while keeping the inner core soft.
Q. Which is the best grade of TMT bars?
Various grades of TMT bars are available in the industry. The most prevalent type is Fe-550. The TMT bars can carry heavy loads and have higher yield and tensile strength. Fe-550 bars are highly malleable and ductile. The minimal residual stresses make these TMT bars highly corrosion-resistant. Other TMT bar grades include Fe-415, Fe-450, Fe-500, and Fe-600. The higher the grade, the more the strength. However, TMT bars with medium grades, like Fe 550, are ideal for residential and commercial project construction, like housing complexes, malls, and others.
