Quantity of reinforcement per cubic meter i.e., the number of a suitable size of iron bar will depend upon how much load the building will have to endure. Greater this load on the structure, greater is the diameter of the iron rods. 12mm is the minimum bar diameter permissible to be used in columns while 40mm iron rods will be used in heavier construction like dams or bridges.
